The modern English word purple comes from the Old English purpul, which derives from Latin purpura, which, in turn, derives from the Greek πορφύρα ( porphura), the name of the Tyrian purple dye manufactured in classical antiquity from a mucus secreted by the spiny dye-murex snail. When combined with pink, it is associated with eroticism, femininity, and seduction. Īccording to contemporary surveys in Europe and the United States, purple is the color most often associated with rarity, royalty, magic, mystery, and piety. Similarly in Japan, the color is traditionally associated with the emperor and aristocracy. Purple was the color worn by Roman magistrates it became the imperial color worn by the rulers of the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, and later by Roman Catholic bishops. Purple has long been associated with royalty, originally because Tyrian purple dye-made from the secretions of sea snails-was extremely expensive in antiquity. In the RGB color model used in computer and television screens, purple is created by mixing red and blue light in order to create colors that appear similar to violet light. In the CMYK color model used in modern printing, purple is made by combining magenta pigment with either cyan pigment, black pigment, or both. In the RYB color model historically used in the arts, purple is a secondary color created by combining red and blue pigments in different proportions. ![]() Purple is a color similar in appearance to violet light. Processing powerĬurrently both Roku and Chromecast offer brilliant quality when it comes to audio and streaming quality. For example, you can use Chromecast and Roku to share your laptop screen with your TV, though Chromecast has better mirroring. With an iOS device, you’ll need a third-party app for Chromecast or the Roku app for Roku.Īnother great feature of both devices is the ability to mirror screens. This is especially true with sharing content from an Android device. But if you plan on casting personal videos and images, Chromecast is more intuitive. Streaming from apps like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube is easy enough with both devices. When it comes to casting or sharing content from mobile devices to your TV, Chromecast is the clear winner. I prefer the voice remote so my phone isn’t tied to controlling the device. The other option is a slightly more expensive adapter which comes with a voice remote, which gives you more flexibility and the option to use your voice to search. This includes audio, video, and even content from Google’s Chrome Web Browser. With this model, anything your mobile device displays can be “cast” to your TV Screen. With Chromecast you have two different options including a more affordable one where you control everything from your tablet or phone. Streaming apps are accessible from the interface, and for those familiar with app-based systems, this setup is a great option. Roku operates in a more traditional manner with a physical remote and a full user interface on your TV. Google Chromecast and Roku both allow you to access similar services, but the method used by each device is quite different. Chromecast vs Roku: Major feature differences Ease of use Roku remotes don’t have voice control, but the menu is very seamless to control. Roku boasts having over 100,000 different channels/apps to choose from, which is absolutely incredible. Roku has more apps to download compared to Chromecast, because you are not locked on the Google Play Store. A USB connection also powers the device while in use. Roku also comes in the form of an adapter that plugs in via HDMI right into your TV. Just like the Chromecast, Roku is also a streaming media device that allows users to watch content on their TV. ![]() Chromecasts mirroring ability is incredibly intuitive to use, which gives users the ability to “mirror” their tablets, phones and computers straight to their TV without cables. You also will have the option for Games on Stadia, which allows users to stream AAA games straight to the TV. The Chromecast tends to be much more affordable compared to other streaming devices, and depending on which model you get, you have a built-in microphone for voice control with Google Assistant. With Chromecast, you are able to download your favorite apps such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, GooglePlay, music apps, game apps and so much more! There is also a USB connection that powers the device. Chromecast comes in the form of an adapter that plugs in via HDMI right into your TV. ![]() They can also make an already smart TV even “smarter.” The question is, when it comes to Chromecast vs Roku, which one suits you best? What is Chromecast?Ĭhromecast is a streaming media device that allows users to watch content on their TV. Streaming devices like Chromecast and Roku make accessing these services even easier because they essentially convert a “dumb” TV into a smart one. Over the last few years, streaming services have become extremely popular, primarily because of how convenient they are. So you'll have to either restart the game, or change the setting in the Nvidia control panel. I'd love to hear if you folks get the same result and hope this will help some of you out.ĮDITED: So I discovered, that if you alt-tab and go back into the game the scaling will sometimes fail, if you force "aspect-ratio" via Nvidia control panel. Here is a gallery with some direct comparisons: Every 16:9 resolution I have tried behaves the same way, so I am going with the assumption that it is intended. I am not sure if this is a bug or working as intended. So what it boils down to is that if you set your resolution in-game to 2560x1440 (16:9) instead of 3440x1440 (21:9) your image quality with DLSS is vastly improved ! The distortion seems to keep the DLSS sharpness improvements intact. In other words the image you see on screen has the correct aspect ratio. So what it renders is this : but what you actually see on your screen is this. It seems like Metro is "pre-distorting" the image when you set the render resolution to 2560x1440 on a 3440x1440 monitor. When I took a screenshot with GeForce Experience I realized what was happening. Now here is the thing though the image you see on your screen does not "appear" to be stretched 16:9. However, if you set your resolution to 2560x1440 in Metro, the game still stretches to the full screen. In other words it should display the game with "pillar boxes" on both sides, if I set the resolution to a 16:9 one like 2560x1440. You see, I have the NVIDIA control panel set up with the following settings for how it should handle resolutions : "aspect ratio / perform scaling on GPU / override the scaling mode set by games and programs". To my surprise the game seems to handle resolutions in a weird way. However, if you are running a 21:9 monitor with a resolution of 3440x1440 you are out of luck, because DLSS looks just as blurry as before the patch.įrustrated about this, I decided to switch my resolution to 2560x1440 to see what that would look like in Metro. So as you all know there was a patch for Metro Exodus that improved DLSS quite dramatically, at least at 4k and 2560x1440 resolutions.
